STANDARD CANDLE Solvitur Ambulando

LABEL Tigercycle Records

Twelve tracks, 45 minutes, released 12/12/23 | full length

Standard Candle's debut LP is a mostly instrumental, entirely pleasant collection running a gamut of musical expressions from the warm ambiance of "Solarium" and "In the Beginning" to the playful "Every Flower, A Field." The LP weaves together songs from the string quintet's self-titled EP with new numbers, forming an expanded narrative flow. Will Ruff's pastoral violin, viola, and mandolin and Scott Pearlman's soulful dobro sit high atop carefully crafted arrangements built around Micah Cadwell's intricate guitar. Jordi Lara's emotive cello intertwines seamlessly with Robert Henson's grounding double bass. Maryann Lozano's haunting voice in a rendition of Paul Simon's "Duncan" hints at great potential for more collaborations while fleshing out Standard Candle's signature sound. NOTE: The digital version includes a bonus track titled "I Am Afraid of Virginia Wolf [sic.]."

Fondly reminds us of: Erik Satie, Edgar Meyer, The Punch Brothers
